When missiles were limited to 10 the drop in SDI upon each strike worked in a balanced way.

But with unlimited missiles and the accelerated pace of Express a defender can face a barrage of 65 missiles over a very short space of time. And it is no great trick to acquire missiles in those quantities. SDI will drop, in the face of such a barrage, from 80% to 65% - allowing nearly twice as many missiles through.

There is nothing a defender can do to repair his SDI defences while such a barrage is taking place.

To re-balance the position between attacker/s and defender the amount of damage done to SDI defences by each strike needs to be reduced. My intuition suggests, by half.

i suggested this a while back. Nothing was done. Ash feels that this is balanced, and it would be if it was just 1 vs 1.

There is a further point. It takes relatively few tech points to max out Warfare. That was necessary when the 10 missile limit was in place. Warfare would have been too bad value else. But now the return you get for those few points is immensely greater.

To re-balance, the tech required should be a lot more - or Warfare should be eroded by the production of missiles as SDI is eroded by defending against them - or the damage done for each missile sent in a sequence should drop, rather like the returns for grabbing, special attacks and for spy missions. Like those cases the damage level could go back up with the passage of time (quite a bit of time in the case of Express).

I don't know how much adjustment is required. Perhaps not too much as people (especally the young or young at heart) love to toss missiles about freely. :D But I have little or no doubt that issues of balance were not addressed when the limit was removed. You only have to play one and a half sets in express to see how unbalanced the position now is. I spend a third of my turns or mor repairing my SDI defences.
